In India, the government mandates electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) for businesses whose aggregate turnover in any preceding financial year (from 2017-18 onwards) exceeds the statutory limit (currently ₹5 Crore). Tally Prime features GSP (GST Suvidha Provider) integration, enabling you to generate Invoice Reference Numbers (IRN) and QR codes directly during sales voucher entry.
Step 1: Register on the E-Invoice Portal
Before enabling e-invoicing in Tally, you must create API credentials on the government portal:
- Go to the official portal: einvoice1.gst.gov.in.
- Log in using your corporate credentials.
- Go to API Integration > User Credentials > Create API User.
- Select Through GSP. Select **Tally India Pvt Ltd** as your GSP partner.
- Create a unique API Username and Password. Save these credentials.
Step 2: Enable E-Invoicing in Tally Prime
Configure Tally to activate e-invoice fields:
- Open Tally Prime and press F11 (Features).
- Select Enable Goods and Services Tax (GST) and press Enter.
- On the GST details page, scroll down to the e-invoicing section.
- Set e-Invoicing Applicable to Yes.
- Enter the **Applicable From** date and your business location (Place).
- Set Send e-Way Bill details with e-Invoice to Yes if you also need to generate e-way bills. Save the settings.
Step 3: Generating the IRN & QR Code
Once configured, generating an e-invoice takes a single click:
- Go to Gateway of Tally > Vouchers > F8 (Sales).
- Draft your sales voucher, selecting the party ledger, stock items, quantity, rate, and tax ledgers.
- When you click Save (Ctrl+A), Tally will prompt: Provide e-Invoicing Details? Select Yes.
- Enter the place of delivery, distance (for e-way bill), and vehicle details if applicable.
- Tally will prompt: Do you want to generate e-Invoice? Select Yes.
- Enter the API username and password you created in Step 1. Tally will connect to the portal, validate the details, and print the QR code and IRN directly on the tax invoice.
